Last week some of our Secondary and Primary students from Ingfield Manor attended a Knights and Castles workshop, delivered by Nick from Dan Tastic Education, to support our class and English topics. Nick was great with the students and adapted his sessions according to the students’ needs. They all enjoyed trying on bits of armour, holding a real sword, playing medieval games, seeing a bow and arrow fired and dancing to medieval music. The students asked some great questions such as ‘did the horses wear armour?’ Some of comments from the students, such as ‘I felt like a king’ and ‘I liked dancing and holding things from the past’ showed how enlightening they found their session. Even the staff also got involved in the dressing-up!

The children and adults really enjoyed your visit. The children can remember all the facts that you told us, especially the price of the pineapple! We have made pirate ships using logs in the woods, remembering that the sails need wind in order to move the ships forwards, they explained that we needed an anchor to stop the ship. They also absolutely love and 'treasure' the piece of Ruby that you gave to them all. We are going to try and make some 'Hard Tack' biscuits ... without the bugs of course!

Dan Tastic Education came to our primary school last week to kick start our new topic of Pirates and he certainly got us off to a great start. The morning was spent finding out about a range of Pirate information. There was such a great amount of knowledge on the subject and they were fantastic at communicating with the children. The children (and the teachers) laughed all the way through, saw incredible artefacts and got the chilren were completely involved from beginning to end. They were spellbound! In the afternoon we had all 60 children in the hall and they had no problems keeping them the children entertained with games, songs and stories. It was pretty mad at times & the children absolutely loved it. Many described it as 'the best day ever' and we got some fantastic writing about Pirates the following day. This is the second year that we've had Dan Tastic Education, and we would definitely book again next year!

It was FANTASTIC! The engagement with the children was fabulous and energetic! A day of cross curricular activities and workshops covering Maths, literacy, PE, Drama, geography, history, story telling and much more in a fun and engaging way. This was Captain Dan Tastic's first visit to our setting (and we're sure it won't be the last!) Dan adapted very well to the small awkward space we had available for him to use. He performed in front of a large group of 90 children and was very skilled at keeping them fully engaged throughout. The children loved joining in with all the actions, and he included lots of movement to keep our physical learners very motivated. The show was a great success, very entertaining and lots of fun.
We are looking forward to Captain Dan Tastic sailing into our setting again later this year!
